Last summer, Town Hall offered new electrical rate options as part of Maynard Power Choice. (Read our initial coverage here) The new plan promised competitive rates, stable pricing through November 2027, and the option to sign on for more electricity from renewable sources. It’s now been a year, and the town has released its first-year results.

From the program’s launch in September 2025 through June 20, 2026, Maynard residents collectively saved more than $300,000 on electricity. Since the program launched, Maynard Power Choice has helped residents and businesses avoid the equivalent of 441.4 metric tons of CO2 emissions.
“We are thrilled by the results of Maynard Power Choice over the first year of service,” said Sally Warner, a local resident and member of the Maynard Sustainability Committee. “It’s great to see how much money Maynard residents have saved on their electric bills. Even customers who opted up to 100% green energy paid less than Eversource’s basic service rate in this first year. It’s a win-win for Maynard residents and for the environment.”
Mike Stevens, chair of the Select Board, said, “As we approach the one-year anniversary of the Maynard Power Choice Program, it is encouraging to see that it has met our expectations by helping reduce both residents’ electricity costs and the community’s carbon emissions.
“While the savings and emissions reductions may seem modest for any individual household, they demonstrate the value of collective action. Many of the challenges we face today, from energy costs to climate change, cannot be solved by any one person acting alone.
“We rightly value personal choice in most aspects of our lives,” said Stevens. “The Power Choice Program shows that there are also times when communities can achieve better outcomes by working together. By combining our purchasing power, Maynard has been able to provide residents with a program that both reduces costs and lowers carbon emissions.
“More broadly, I hope it reinforces an important mindset for our town: that some of our best solutions come not just from asking, ‘What’s best for me?’ but also, ‘What can we accomplish together?’” concluded Stevens.
