A (fictional) descendant of the town’s founder, Special Correspondent Amory Maynard investigates Maynard’s oddities, mysteries, shenanigans, and minor mischief that threatens the fabric of absolutely nothing. Amory’s work is satirical, lighthearted, and intended only to entertain the citizens of Maynard.
The meter bandits strike again! Does Maynard have its very own local Banksy? Maynansky? Banksardy? On the morning of February 2, as Boston Bean and the Bagel Table served breakfast for their first customers, business owners and residents alike noticed some newly dressed meters on Main and Nason Streets. In a quirky show of fan devotion ahead of Super Bowl LX, some local Patriots supporters (or MAYEnard supporters) dressed a handful of downtown parking meters in Drake Maye jerseys — turning ordinary street fixtures into an impromptu fan gallery. The meters are outfitted with a scaled-down version of the Patriots’ star quarterback’s No. 10 jersey.

ArtSpace artist Tim Brady claimed to know nothing. “All of the artists in ArtSpace appreciate any creative additions to our great little town but this was not any of us.”
“We have been blitzed again” said local police officer Bob Belichik. Last December, a number of meters were dressed in their holiday finest for the Christmas season, also by unknown costumers. That case also went unsolved but not unappreciated, with residents enjoying the festive addition to downtown for holiday shopping.
This new meter stunt comes amid an atmosphere of intense anticipation for the Super Bowl, where Maye and the New England Patriots will face off against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, February 8. The move is no doubt tied to the recent Select Board vote to change the town name to “Maye”nard for a day. The change was well-received by Town residents and local businesses, with many noting the great attention this has garnered for the Town and the “positive vibes” it brings.
Local resident Doug Bledsoe remarked “Love the spirit! What a great idea. Drake Maye has brought us a ton of joy this season, so why not wrap it around every meter we’ve got? It’s not like those meters are being used!”
While not officially sanctioned by the Town or the NFL, the mash-up of grassroots creativity and Patriots fandom quickly spread on social media. Clips of the decorated meters were shared under the hashtag #MayeMeters, alongside Super Bowl travel shots and fan gear.
Only in Mayenard.
