Construction on the new Green Meadow Elementary School remains on schedule and within budget, according to Jerry Culbert, chair of the GMS Building Committee, who told the committee the project is tracking toward a January 2027 opening for students and staff. As of the Building Committee’s June 8 meeting, Phase 1 construction was 72% complete.

Work is progressing across all three sections of the building. In Area C, crews are installing FOB card readers, interior and exterior security cameras, and intrusion system sensors, while finish paint work has begun and interior doors are being installed. Area A has seen completed sound system wiring, restroom partitions and above-ceiling inspections, with kitchen equipment installation, sound-absorbing panels in the cafetorium and gym, and the scoreboard and shot clocks now underway. In Area B, crews are installing fire alarm devices, plumbing fixtures and interior doors, with sound system work, restroom partitions and above-ceiling inspections already complete.

Outside, site work includes progress on vertical granite curb installation, final grading of lawn areas, building perimeter drainage, and continued sewer installation along Tiger Drive. Raising roadway casting structures to final grade and the water service bypass to the existing Green Meadow Elementary School building have both been completed.
The project’s total budget stands at $83.6 million, with roughly $5.44 million in invoices approved at the June 8 meeting covering work by CTA Construction, Mount Vernon Group and Colliers Project Leaders.

The Building Committee also discussed the possibility of a public walkthrough of the current Green Meadow School before staff and students move to the new building. According to committee notes from the June 8 meeting, the district is considering an open house to give community members a chance to visit the existing building before the transition. The topic is expected to be revisited at a future meeting.
