Apple Pie Contest Returns for Maynard Farmers’ Market Anniversary

The Apple Pie Baking Contest made a return on Saturday, September 13 at the Maynard Farmers’ Market, part of the Market’s 30th anniversary celebration.

Kaela (Pie A, center), Lorriane (Pie C, right) and Natalie (Pie H, left) received the three highest number of votes by our market community tasters (who were asked to chose 1st and 2nd favorite pies)

Eleven volunteer bakers entered their best pies, showcasing a wide variety of styles—from different apple varieties to creative crust techniques, with even two gluten-free pies in the mix. Community tasters sampled and judged the entries, making donations to participate. Along with a modest entry fee, the contest raised nearly $500 for the Maynard Boy Scouts, who provide weekly support by setting up and breaking down Market supplies.

The voting was close, but in the end, Kaela, Lorraine, and Natalie (pictured above) earned the top three spots. It was a delicious day for all—and we’re already looking forward to next year’s contest!
