https://www.senatoreldridge.com/press-releases/maynard618500  “Congratulations on Town of Maynard’s successful application to the FY26 Round of the Community One Stop for Growth. On behalf of the Healey-Driscoll Administration, I am pleased to inform you thata grant in the amount of $60,000 from the Housing Choice Grant Program has been approved to support the Housing Production Plan Update project.”

Maynard, MA’s Housing Production Plan (HPP) Update project is a town-wide strategy, developed with the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC), to create diverse, affordable housing for all ages, focusing on meeting state housing goals and updating zoning for areas like the Powder Mill Road Corridor (PMOD) and the former Fowler Middle School site, aiming for more housing variety, mixed-use development, and riverfront access to enhance community vibrancy. Key initiatives include zoning changes (like the PMOD) and reuse analyses for specific sites, all designed to boost housing stock, support different demographics, and leverage zoning tools like Chapter 40B for greater housing production.

Key Goals & Focus Areas:

  • Increase Affordable Housing: Meet or exceed state goals for affordable units.
  • Diverse Housing Stock: Provide options for seniors, young adults, and various economic means.
  • Revitalize Powder Mill Road: Implement the Powder Mill Overlay District (PMOD) for mixed-use, walkable, river-connected development.
  • Fowler School Reuse: Analyze potential housing and cultural uses for the site to advance HPP goals.

“Congratulations on Maynard’s successful application to the FY26 Round of the Community One Stop for Growth…a grant in the amount of $558,500 from the MBTA Communities Catalyst Fund has been approved to support the PMOD Bike & Pedestrian Plan and Design project.”

Capital Building Advisory Committee; Volunteers needed

More Information: https://www.townofmaynard-ma.gov/626/Municipal-Building-Advisory-Committee

This committee reports to the Select Board, both directly and via an annual report to the town’s Capital Planning Committee, and will offer advice regarding plans to address conditions of municipal buildings and facilities, including administration, schools, public safety and public works, library, golf course and senior center.

From the October publication of the Maynard Voice, according to Select Board Chair David Gavin:

“One of our primary goals for this Fiscal Year and beyond is to focus on the consistent and better utilization of long term forecasting models to assist in the development of our budget as we move forward…I’m confident that we are going in the right direction…that is consistent with our vision for the future“.

Advice requested includes project prioritization that may be based on an analysis of all of the various factors weighing into building construction and reconstruction and repairs. This committee has broad discretion as to how their advice is developed and produced, although it is suggested that the committee seeks input from town and school staff, industry experts and experienced sources, in addition to town officials such as the Finance Committee and the Capital Planning Committee.
