Maynard Police Department Responds to Reports of ICE Activity

After reports of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity in Maynard this week, some residents raised questions and concerns about the role of local police in such operations. In response, The Maynard Voice reached out to Maynard Police Chief Troiano, who reminded residents that the Maynard Police Department does not participate in immigration enforcement and reaffirmed the department’s commitment to community safety and trust.

In a statement provided to The Maynard Voice, Chief Troiano said:

With respect to today’s reported ICE activity, I want to be clear that the Maynard Police Department was not involved in these operations. Immigration enforcement is under the sole jurisdiction of federal authorities, and local police departments, including ours, do not have direct participation in these activities. We can only assist when there is a judicially issued federal arrest warrant, and we would treat that the same as any other federal arrest warrant.

Our role as the Maynard Police Department is to ensure the safety and security of all residents and visitors within our community. While we do not carry out immigration enforcement, we remain committed to protecting the rights of every individual, and we respond to calls for service without regard to immigration status.

I understand that reports of ICE activity can cause concern among residents. While I cannot provide details about federal investigations or whether individuals were detained, I would refer you to ICE for those specific details, I can assure the community that our department’s focus remains on public safety, building trust, and supporting all members of Maynard.

The Maynard Voice is grateful to Chief Troiano and the entire Maynard Police Department for addressing resident concerns and for their continuing work in our community to maintain public safety and foster trust.
