Maynard Student Earns Highest Girl Scout Award

Some people strike gold: Maynard resident Siena Hesbach created it. The 2026 Maynard High School graduate earned her Girl Scout Gold Award by conceiving and executing a community project focused on cardiac prevention and emergency response.

Siena was particularly concerned about members of her community utilizing public outdoor spaces, including sports fields and parks. Working with the Maynard Fire Department and Zoll Medical, she raised funds to donate five Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs) to the town, including three at soccer fields, two in Memorial Park, and one near Ice House Landing.

The Girl Scouts Gold Award requires over 80 hours of planning and executing a sustainable project that solves a local issue. It is the highest and most prestigious achievement in Girl Scouting available to girls in grades 9-12. Siena’s initiative ensures that sudden cardiac arrest victims can receive rapid, on-site help, significantly improving emergency survival rates in the Maynard area.

Congratulations Siena, and thank you!
