Maynard’s Holiday Weekend brings Magic to Downtown

The first weekend of December yet again proved to be another winner for Maynard. From the Holiday Movie Party at Fine Arts on Saturday afternoon sponsored by Steve and Lizza Smith of Kelleher Williams Real Estate, to the Holiday Stroll and Tree Lighting sponsored by the Maynard Business Alliance later Saturday evening and ending with the 59th Maynard Holiday Parade on Sunday. Maynard was certainly full of magic last weekend including a dusting of fresh beautiful snow!

Santa and Mrs. Claus are the big finale of Maynard’s Holiday Parade

The 59th Maynard Holiday Parade featured the Holiday Village beginning before the parade. There was Make a S’more over a fire, the Maynard Fire Fighters were giving out coloring books and red plastic fire hats. Free ornament and dreidel decorating at the craft table, ACapella singers created a festive feel with holiday songs sung by the fireplace. Letters to Santa & Santa’s personalized responses sponsored by the Emblem Club as well as Cards to Deployed Service Men & Woman were a beautiful addition to the village.  Numerous vendors and food trucks were in and around the park creating a sweet, rich smell throughout downtown. Homemade waffles, fresh roasted marshmallows, mixed with the smell of hot cocoa and fresh brewed coffee … it does not get much better than that.

Nearing the 2 o’clock hour the sounds of helicopter blades heading toward downtown filled the air. Eyes turned toward the skies to see who was waving to all of the parade goers lining the parade route. There is nothing more incredible than watching the awe in a child’s eyes as they realize that inside the helicopter is the legend himself Santa Claus.

The Maynard Holiday Parade Food Collection appeared first in line for the parade picking up donations from the parade goers lining the street. Followed by the actual parade led by Maynard’s Finest; The Maynard Fire Department and Maynard Police Department. The parade included Senator Jamie Eldridge, State Representative Kate Hogan, The Maynard Selectboard, Maynard Schools, The Maynard High School Band,  the Greater Boston Firefighters Pipes & Drums, costumed characters, dancers, Scouts and multiple bands. We were so  happy to Honor:

Grand Marshal:

Vic Lalli

Guests of Honor:

Sarah Cressy

Josh Morse

Bob McCarthy (who was unable to attend the parade).

All of our nominees were chosen for being incredible assets to the Town of Maynard and our community. All of them represent our Town incredibly and we were happy to honor them.

As the last of the parade floats returned back to the Mill parking lot, the biodegradable confetti swirled in the winds up and down Main Street as if dancing with happiness for the wonderful events that had been had during Maynard’s Holiday Weekend. After a little bit of rest our committee is ready to do it all again … next year, our 60th Anniversary of the Maynard Holiday
