It’s spring, “when a young man’s fancy turns to…” Oh wait — that’s a different story. This one is about Spring ArtWalk, which will take place May 2, 2026, in downtown Maynard.

Spring ArtWalk is a 14-year tradition celebrating Maynard’s abundant offerings of art in all its forms. Conceived in 2012 by Kelli Costa of then-Gallery Seven, the ArtWalk invites residents and visitors to experience local galleries, restaurants and retail sites.
“Unlike a street festival, the event was designed to showcase both artists and local businesses,” said Lynda Thayer of the Maynard Business Alliance, the group that sponsors the event. “While visiting art exhibits, live music and more, attendees often discover businesses they hadn’t known about.”
All Maynard businesses are invited to participate. This year, more than 15 locations are included in the ArtWalk, featuring open studios, live music, demonstrations, activities and, according to Thayer, “some surprises!”
The town Select Board and Department of Public Works are strong supporters, earning gratitude from the organizers. “We couldn’t do what we do if the town wasn’t willing to partner with us,” Thayer said.
The Spring ArtWalk is among many events organized by local residents and organizations to showcase Maynard’s unique blend of art and culture, which helps drive dollars into the local economy. Visitors from surrounding towns often discover galleries, independently owned shops and music events in Maynard’s public parks, along with an abundance of international cuisine.
The Maynard Business Alliance, the Cultural District, the Maynard Public Library, Maynard Pride and others organize events that highlight Maynard’s assets as part of a national cultural economy. According to the Massachusetts Cultural Council, that economy generated $1.2 trillion in spending in 2023.
Organizers begin planning as early as January. All are volunteers and supporters of the town. This year’s team includes Casey Davis of LoTide; Deb Hledik of Explore Pathways to Wellness; Lizza Smith of Smith & Finley Homes; Megan Summers of Inspired Bliss; and Lynda Thayer of Look Optical.
So open your shutters, shed your winter wool and step out at Spring ArtWalk on May 2, 2026. You’re sure to find something that suits your fancy.
