Open Table, the MetroWest nonprofit dedicated to fighting hunger and building healthy communities, is bringing back its Fuel Up for Summer program, which provides free daily lunches and snacks for children during the summer months.

The Open Table Fuel Up for Summer program provides free, healthy lunches for kids

Families not currently registered with Open Table can sign up now and begin placing online orders July 9. Summer lunches will be distributed for six weeks beginning the week of July 14.

Parents can pick up as many as three lunch trays per week per child. Trays include a sandwich or wrap in meat and vegetarian options that change weekly: turkey, ham and cheese, hummus, or sunbutter, each paired with cut vegetables or a side salad such as potato, pasta, or rice. All options are peanut-free.

Lunches can be supplemented with Open Table Kids’ Bags, which include snacks, easy-to-prepare light meals, and drink boxes.

Kids’ summer lunch trays are available for pickup starting the week of July 14 at Open Table, 33 Main St., Maynard:

  • Tuesdays, 3 to 6:30 p.m.
  • Thursdays, 1 to 4:30 p.m.

Trays must be reserved by Monday at noon for the same week. No cost, no photo ID, and no proof of financial need required.

Current clients do not need to re-register. New clients can register at opentable.org to save time at pickup.

“Every week, hundreds of local families rely on Open Table for the food they need. Summer vacation can put even more stress on parents when kids are no longer getting lunch at school,” said Alexandra DePalo, executive director of Open Table. “We are happy to do our part to offer some extra food support during July and August, particularly as food and gas prices are so high this year.”
